Simple, Easy to Use and Sturdy
When my "rabbit" style wine opener broke on me a few months ago, I did my research online to find a replacement. The rabbit that I had been using for five years was a sturdy, all-metal one that opened bottles in a second and never jammed. The fact that it lasted five years is testament to its all metal design.
Unfortunately, I could not find any all-metal "rabbit" style openers on Amazon. Many of those that were advertised as "metal" or "steel" were only partly made of metal and partly of shiny, steel-colored plastic. My mom has one of these and it's horrible. The plastic handle gives when you press on it and feels like it's going to crack. It also needs much greater force to open since much of your power is lost to the bending plastic. So, I broadened my search and found this WMF Vino corkscrew got lots of great reviews, and decided to give it a try.
Several months and 100 bottles later and I can say that this corkscrew is great. Its simplicity is its greatest...
A REAL de-corker.....
This is a fun little guy. If you enjoy manually uncorking. Kind of an art form. But this one is SMOOTH. Due mostly to the teflon coating on the spiral. The cork leaves the bottle before it reaches the top of the arch. The 18/10 smooth stainless really gives it an elegant feel and is quite substantial in weight as well. The dark plastic neck adjusters move outwardly to fit any neck size, but are only a centering mechanism, not a 'holding' device. A very well made thing, but not for the uncorking challenged.
MWF wine bottle opener
I purchased one of these wine bottle openers about 10 years ago at the Robert Mondavi Winery in St. Helena, California. It is so smoothe and easy to use and the best I have ever used! I recently ordered 4 of them from Amazon to use as gifts and plan to order more in the future.
